About me & my approach

I’ve spent over 10 years working in education, where I have learned how to break down complex ideas into clear, practical steps that people can actually use in everyday life.

Over the past five years, I’ve also been on a personal nutrition journey, gradually improving my own diet and learning what sustainable change really looks like.

Along the way, I completed a short nutrition course and am currently training to become a nutrition coach with the Amanda Hamilton Nutrition Coach Academy.

My aim with this site is to share clear, practical guidance that’s backed by evidence, focused on real life and free from rigid rules.

A calmer, more realistic way to think about food & health

This site started with removing ultra-processed food, but it isn't really about cutting things out.

It's about learning to eat and live with more awareness, less pressure and a bit more kindness.

I am not here to make rules or give perfect answers,  I'm here to share what helped me to take a step back, ask better questions and make changes that felt realistic and sustainable. â€‹

How this started

Like a lot of people I didn't suddenly decide to overhaul my diet.  I just started noticing how I felt; my energy, my mood, my general well-being, and wondering whether the way I was eating had something to do with it.

Learning about ultra-processed food gave me a useful lens.  It helped me understand ingredients and how much modern food is designed for convenience rather than nourishment.

But quite quickly it became evident that removing UPF was only part of the picture.

What mattered more than individual foods was:

  • habits - what I did most days, not occasionally

  • mindset - how much pressure I put on myself to 'do it right'

  • stepping back - looking at health as a whole, not just diet

Small, imperfect changes done consistently helped far more than trying to be strict or 'good'.  That's the approach that this site is built on. If you’re curious about the experiences that shaped this approach, you can read more about my journey [here].

What this site is (and isn't)

This site is:

  • practical and realistic

  • focused on progress, not perfection

  • interested in food, habits, health and how they fit together

This site isn't:

  • a detox

  • a set of rules

  • about fear, guilt or moralising food

UPF awareness is a tool, not the end goal.

This site might be for you if...

  • you're tired of extreme food rules

  • you want to eat better without tracking or obsessing

  • you're curious about UPF but don't want it to take over your life

  • you care about health as a whole, not just about what is on your plate

Why I wrote the book

Along the way, I created a small, self-published journal.  The resource I wish I’d had when I was starting out.

It supports a step by step reduction of ultra-processed foods, using mindful eating and reflection rather than rules or perfection.

Where to start

You don't need to change everything.

Take what's useful.  Leave the rest.  Start where you are.
